The End of the Michael Jackson Memorial, The service began with Smokey Robinson reading statements from Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela. A gospel choir sang Andrae Crouch’s “Soon and Very Soon” as Jackson’s casket entered, followed by statements from Pastor Lucious Smith. Mariah Carey and Trey Lorenz then sang “I’ll Be There,” a number one single of The Jackson 5, followed by statements from Queen Latifah. Lionel Richie, Jackson’s friend and his co-writer on “We Are the World,” performed the song “Jesus is Love” by The Commodores. Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records where Jackson and his brothers began their career, called Jackson “the greatest entertainer that ever lived” which was followed by a great applause from the crowd. A video montage of Michael Jackson performances followed, including Neverland Ranch, when he met Ronald Reagan, “Billie Jean”, “Smooth Criminal”, “Thriller”, “Scream,” “You Are Not Alone”, “We Are the World”, and his appearance at Super Bowl XXVII. Stevie Wonder spoke and performed a version of his song “Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer” and “They Won’t Go When I Go”. Usher sings Gone Too Soon at Michael Jackson Memorial Service


American recording artist Usher was the sixth in a string of celebrities to perform at the memorial service for Michael Jackson today. Usher sang Gone Too Soon in front of a capacity audience at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles during the two-hour long performance to celebrate the life of the dead King of Pop. The memorial service got underway some 45-minutes late, after the dead 80s King of Pops body was transported in a motorcade from the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, to the site of the memorial service, amidst a massive security cordon. Jacksons $US25,000, 14-karat gold-plated, solid bronze coffin, bedecked with a huge bouquet of red roses, was the center of attention in the stadium, with millions of people around the world joining together to watch the show. Prior to the memorial service beginning it was estimated the world-wide viewing audience from television, streaming internet, movie theatre screenings and iPhone streams could easily top two billion.
