LeBron James 48 points vs Atlanta Hawks on his birthday December 30 2009

CLEVELAND — LeBron James had a big bash to celebrate his 25th birthday. Anderson Varejao delivered his gift before the party started. Varejao made his first career 3-pointer with 17.2 seconds left — as the 24-second shot clock was about to expire — to give Cleveland a disputed 106-101 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, the Cavaliers’ 11th victory in 12 games. James scored a season-high 48 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cavs. “That’s a great gift,” James said. “I had Andy in the gift exchange and so he paid me back. That’s what friends are for.” With the score tied at 101 and the shot clock down to its final tick, Mo Williams passed the ball to Varejao on the left wing. The 6-foot-11 forward, who missed his first 18 career 3-pointers, stepped up and drilled his long shot just before the horn sounded. When he ran to the other end of the floor, James rushed into his arms. “I saw that Mo got kind of tied up and I just tried to get open,” Varejao said. “I just shot it.” A birthday swish for James. “That’s what I told him,” Varejao said. “Happy birthday.” The shot was initially ruled a 2-pointer, but after reviewing the bucket on video, the officiating crew determined that Varejao’s feet were behind the line. After Atlanta’s Mike Bibby missed a 3 with six seconds left, Jamario Moon made two free throws to ice the Cavs’ sixth straight win and 11th in a row at home. Joe Johnson scored 35 for the Hawks, who were held to just 37 points in the second half

LeBron James 29 points in 29 minutes vs Rockets December 27 2009

LeBron James 29 points in 29 minutes vs Rockets December 27 2009 CLEVELAND — Once LeBron James and the Cavaliers adjusted to being back home, the Houston Rockets quickly wore out their welcome. Cleveland looked sluggish through the first few minutes following a West Coast trip, but quickly recovered with a flurry of 3-pointers and stifling defense to beat the Rockets 108-83 Sunday night. James scored 29 points and Mo Williams added 20 for Cleveland (24-8), which has won four straight and nine of 10. They have won 10 straight at home, the league’s longest active winning streak. “It’s tough when you’re coming off the West Coast,” Williams said. “I don’t know why, and I’ve been in the league seven years. When you’re coming off the West Coast, the energy is not there. The third quarter we came out with a lot of energy and got it rolling.” James and Williams combined to make five 3-pointers in less than three minutes early in the third quarter, stretching Cleveland’s lead to 68-53. The margin didn’t dip below 15 the rest of the way. Cleveland’s defense took it from there, holding the Rockets to a season low in points after Houston raced out to an early 16-4 lead in the first quarter. Aaron Brooks had 23 points for Houston, but only five in the second half. Trevor Ariza scored 11 points, but went 2 of 10 from the floor and is now mired in a 10-for-48 slump. Ariza injured his shin late in the game and a team spokesman said he was taken for precautionary X-rays. Carl Landry

LeBron James 29 points nasty skills vs Phoenix Suns December 21 2009

PHOENIX — Nobody has been able to beat the Suns in Phoenix, except the Cavaliers. LeBron James and his Cleveland teammates made it two in a row in the desert with a 109-91 triumph on Monday night. The Suns had won 19 straight at home since Cleveland beat them there on March 12 last season. At 10-0, they were the only team in the NBA without a home loss this season. Cleveland ended that run with a dominant fourth quarter. James and Mo Williams did the offensive damage and the Cavaliers’ defense stifled the Suns in a late 15-0 run. James scored 29 and Williams 24 as the Cavs shot 53 percent one night after a tough loss at Dallas. “Just a veteran ballclub,” James explained. “We know how important back-to-back games are and bounce-back games. We don’t let one loss linger around our team. We never have.” Steve Nash had 18 points and 10 assists for Phoenix. “They have a great, great player on their team,” Suns coach Alvin Gentry said. “They play off him and really do a good job of it. They have guys that can space the floor and make shots. Contrary to what anybody may think, to get to the Eastern Conference championships, you are going to have to go through Cleveland at some point.” Shaquille O’Neal didn’t get much of a reaction from the fans in his first game in Phoenix since the Suns traded him to Cleveland, just a smattering of cheers and boos when he was introduced. In foul trouble much of the night, O’Neal had three points and five rebounds in 19 minutes. Afterward, he

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks Game 4 2009 NBA Playoffs 5/11/2009

ATLANTA(AP) Like Michael Jordan, he knows there are times that call for dominating. Like Magic Johnson, he knows there are times that call for sharing the ball. LeBron James went with his Magic impression in the deciding game of another playoff sweep. While failing to match his offensive explosion in Game 3, the league’s MVP scored 27 points and got his teammates involved as the Cleveland Cavaliers finished off the Atlanta Hawks 84-74 Monday night to win the second-round series in four straight. Delonte West and Mo Williams showed Cleveland isn’t just a one-man squad, hitting huge shots down the stretch as the Cavaliers extended their NBA-record streak of double-digit playoff wins to eight in a row. Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao pounded the boards, leading the Cavaliers to another big rebounding edge. “I’ve got trust in every last one of our guys,” James said. Cleveland, which also swept Detroit in the opening round, will face either Boston or Orlando in the Eastern Conference finals. No matter the opponent, the Cavaliers will be a lot more rested. The Celtics-Magic series is tied 2-2 and will last at least through Thursday, while the top seed heads back to Ohio to relax for a few days before opening the next round at home. “We’re glad to finish this series off,” said Wally Szcerbiak, who chipped in with six points off the bench. “Now it’s time to go get our rest and get ready for the next series. We have some bumps and bruises to heal from in this series

LeBron James 34 points triple double vs Sacramento December 23 2009

LeBron James 34 points triple double vs Sacramento December 23 2009 SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For 48 exhilarating minutes, the young Sacramento Kings stayed right with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and even had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation. When the game got tight, so did Cleveland’s defense. Zydrunas Ilgauskas hit three 3-pointers in the extra session on the way to a season-high 25 points and James keyed a defensive effort that kept the Kings scoreless in overtime and gave the Cavaliers a 117-104 victory Wednesday night. “The fourth quarter is where we make our mark defensively,” James said. “We hate to continue letting teams get comfortable those first three quarters. It’s a great thing for us to be able to turn it on defensively like that, but we need to learn how to do it for 48 minutes.” James had 34 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double of the season, but it was his defense in the fourth quarter and overtime against rookie Tyreke Evans that proved to be the difference. The Kings shot just 8 for 27 after the third quarter, missing all seven shots in overtime. Evans finished with 28 points, but made only one of eight shots in the fourth and overtime as the Cavaliers put James on him in a sign of respect. “It was just me taking the challenge,” James said. “He was definitely trying to get where he wanted to get on the court. I was just trying to use my length and experience and use my mindset defensively to try to
